    NASHVILLE (BP) -- More than 1,000 churches have registered for two simulcasts of the feature documentary film, "The Insanity of God." The first simulcast was Nov. 9 and the last is Sunday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. Eastern.

  • 'Insanity of God' ticket sales top $1 million

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Ticket sales for an encore showing of "The Insanity of God" in theaters Tuesday, Sept. 13, pushed box office receipts to $1.1 million.

    "Due to the success of the film's two one-night theater showings," Trey Reynolds, manager of LifeWay Films, said, "we are planning a church simulcast for the film the first or second week of November, with a consumer DVD and church license DVD to be released Nov. 21." Read More

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Response to the one-night premiere of "The Insanity of God" in movie theaters across the United States has prompted an encore showing for Tuesday, Sept. 13.

    The feature documentary produced by the International Mission Board and Cooke Pictures and distributed by LifeWay Films tells the story of missionaries Nik and Ruth Ripken*. After the death of their son, the couple traveled to 72 countries into the depths of the persecuted church to find out if God actually makes a difference in difficult places. The film is based on a best-selling book of the same name released by the B&H Publishing Group. Read More

  • 'Insanity of God' showing Aug. 30 across U.S.

    NASHVILLE, TN (BP) -- "The Insanity of God," the true story of missionaries Nik and Ruth Ripken and their work with the persecuted church, will be shown in 500 U.S. theaters Aug. 30 for a special one-night, feature event. The presentation will include International Mission Board President, author and speaker David Platt interviewing Nik Ripken, as well as a performance by music artist Todd Smith.

    The film is based on the best-selling book, "The Insanity of God" (B&H Publishing Group), which tells the story of the Ripkens' journey from rural Kentucky to the Horn of Africa, where their faith was tested to the limit by the death of their 16-year-old son. The film also documents the stories of persecuted Christians from across the world, collected by the Ripkens after their time in Africa. Over the past 18 years, the Ripkens have interviewed more than 600 persecuted Christians in more than 72 countries. Read More

    ST. LOUIS (BP) -- Nik Ripken almost abandoned hope when he first arrived in Somalia 25 years ago.

    Ripken, then a young International Mission Board (IMB) missionary, had caught a ride with the Red Cross in a small plane carrying relief supplies across the border between Kenya and its war-ravaged neighbor.

    What he saw shook him to the core. He met parents who asked for burial cloths for the children they'd lost rather than food and water for themselves and saw soldiers passing out narcotics rather than relief supplies to those in need. Read More
